The City of Snyder Police Department and the Scurry County Sheriff’s Office are partnering with Cogdell Behavioral Health to provide licensed mental health professionals who will ride alongside five mental health peace officers (Sgt Salinas, Sgt Key, Ofc Listwan, Ofc. A. Silva, and Ofc Beynon). This initiative is designed to help prevent the escalation of crises and connect individuals in need with appropriate mental health services.

 Police Chief Mike Counts shared that mental health officers are looking forward to building trauma-informed connections within the community and improving outcomes related to mental health needs. 

The city is proud to support a collaborative approach, according to City Manager Eli Torres. With help from local partners such as Cogdell Behavioral Health’s licensed professionals, we are showing up for our neighbors in a proactive way.

The Snyder Municipal Court will be closed the week of December 8 through 12, while staff attend training to support continued professional development and maintain the highest standards of service.

Residents are encouraged to complete any court business before the closure. The court will reopen and resume regular operations on Monday, December 15, 2025.

The City of Snyder Office of Emergency Management is reminding residents to sign up for the Regroup Mass Notification System to receive critical alerts during severe weather, major utility outages, and other emergencies.

Regroup allows the city to quickly share important updates by phone, text message, or email, helping the community stay prepared and connected when it matters most. Residents are encouraged to create an account or update their existing information to ensure they never miss an alert.

To sign up or update your account:

1. Visit the Regroup website to create or update your account. 
2. New users: If you never had an account in the old CivicReady system, click “Sign Up” to create your account.
3. Returning users: If you had an account in the old system, enter your email or phone number and click “First Time Users Create Password.”
4. If your account cannot be found, create a new account under “Sign Up.”

Boil Water Notice Rescinded 

October 19, 2025

On October 17, 2025, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the  

City of Snyder public water system, TX2080001, to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals, or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.  

The public water system has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system used for drinking water or human consumption purposes and has provided TCEQ with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use as of Sunday, October 19, 2025.

 Boil Water Notice for Community Public Water Systems 

 October 17, 2025  

Due to a water line break, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the City of Snyder / TX2080001 public water system to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc). Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions).  

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.  

In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.  

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.  

Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, the public water system will issue a notice to customers that rescinds the boil water notice in a manner similar to this notice.  

Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

Debido a rotura de línea de agua, la Comisión de Calidad Ambiental de Texas ha requerido que el sistema público de agua Ciudad de Snyder / TX2080001 notifique a todos los clientes que hiervan el agua antes del consumo (p. ej., lavarse la cara y las manos, cepillarse los dientes, beber, etc.). Los niños, las personas mayores y las personas con un sistema inmunológico debilitado son particularmente vulnerables a bacterias dañinas y todos los clientes deberían seguir estas instrucciones. 

Para asegurar la destrucción de todas las bacterias y otros microbios dañinos, el agua para beber, cocinar y hacer hielo debe ser hervida (y enfriada) antes de su uso como agua potable o para otros fines de consumo humano. Due to necessary maintenance, there will be a water outage affecting all areas between 30th and 32nd Street, from Crockett to Austin Avenue. City crews will be working to repair a water line leak during this time. Please be patient as we work to restore service as quickly and safely as possible.

Snyder, TX – The City of Snyder invites residents and community members to join the Fall Sweep, a downtown litter cleanup event, on Saturday, September 27, from 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM at the Pocket Park, 2503 College Ave.

Volunteers will help collect litter and debris throughout downtown, contributing to a cleaner, more welcoming community. The first 100 participants to check in that morning will receive a free Sparkle City T-shirt as a thank-you for their time.

All ages are encouraged to participate. Gloves, trash bags, and safety instructions will be provided. This event is a great opportunity for families, local groups, and residents to give back while enjoying a morning outdoors.

SNYDER, TX – Beginning Monday, August 18, 2025, the intersection of Houston Avenue and 32nd Street will be converted to a 4-way stop. This change is being made to improve traffic flow and enhance safety for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.

Motorists are encouraged to watch for new stop signs and proceed with caution as the community adjusts to the new traffic pattern.

SNYDER, TX – The Office of Emergency Management is currently responding to an ammonia-related incident at the City of Snyder Water Treatment Plant. As a precaution, Avenue M has been temporarily closed to traffic. Please use alternate routes until further notice.

At this time, there is no threat to the city’s water supply, and no evacuations are necessary. Emergency personnel are on scene and working to resolve the situation safely and efficiently.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. 

SNYDER, TX – At approximately 2:00 PM today, emergency officials were notified of a possible ammonia-related incident at the Water Treatment Plant. During a routine inspection, city staff identified a malfunction in a hydrostatic valve associated with the facility’s anhydrous ammonia system.

The hydrostatic valve is a pressure-regulating component that helps control the safe release and containment of anhydrous ammonia. As a precaution, emergency response protocols were immediately activated.

The system was safely depressurized and the incident was resolved without any reported injuries or impact to public health. There is no threat to the city’s water supply.

We would like to thank the Snyder Public Works Department, Office of Emergency Management, Snyder Fire Department, Snyder Police Department, and Scurry County responders for their swift and coordinated efforts to ensure public safety.

SNYDER, TX – The City of Snyder will assist residents with storm debris pickup following the recent storm. Crews will collect storm-related debris only from Monday, July 14, through Wednesday, July 16.

Residents are asked not to set out debris until this weekend to prevent materials from blowing into streets or neighboring properties.

To ensure efficient collection, residents must place debris in the city right-of-way (ROW) by the curb and sort it into separate piles:

• Vegetation – Tree limbs, branches, and yard waste
• Shingles – Roofing materials
• Metals – Carport debris, roof materials, and scrap metal
• Other Storm Debris – Miscellaneous storm-related waste

Debris must not block stop signs, fire hydrants, or obstruct driver visibility. No call-ins are necessary—city crews will collect all properly placed debris.

Residents should contact their insurance provider before removing any materials, as documentation may be required for claims.

Due to weather conditions the City of Snyder was not able to spray for mosquitos on Monday. Spraying has been rescheduled in the area west of College Avenue for today, July 1st. The area east of College Avenue will be sprayed on Wednesday, July 2^nd. The Green Hill Addition (North of Huffman Avenue), Hermleigh, Fluvanna, and Ira will be sprayed on Thursday, July 3^rd.

Why The Local Parade Committee Is Requesting Candy Be Handed Out, Not Thrown 

Parades are a cherished part of local culture, and tradition for our spectators. For generations, children and families have eagerly gathered along our parade routes, hoping to catch a sweet treat or goodies from a float. However, in recent years, growing safety concerns have prompted the Chamber of Commerce, City of Snyder, and Scurry County to take a step back and carefully look at how candy is distributed during these events to ensure that the up most safety is maintained for everyone involved.  

This is not a decision made lightly or quickly. This new approach is the result of multiple after-event briefings and planning meetings conducted throughout the past year. Committee members from several agencies and organizations have come together to address growing problems and identify common-sense solutions. 

Unfortunately, the joyful tradition of candy-throwing has led to multiple incidents involving injuries. Spectators, especially children, often dart into the street to grab candy, placing themselves directly in harm’s way. In other cases, individuals have been hit by thrown objects or distracted by flying items near moving vehicles. These situations have created both safety hazards and legal liabilities for parade organizers and sponsoring entities. 

Locally, this is not just a hypothetical concern. In the last 24 months, there have been numerous incidents right here in Snyder where parade spectators were hurt due to candy being thrown. In some cases, law enforcement was contacted to respond to these safety issues. These issues did not stem from one float; there were several floats in different parades. This pattern highlights the urgent need to take proactive measures to protect our community during parades. 

Additionally, float operators are reporting increasing difficulties navigating parade routes due to large numbers of spectators crowding into the roadway, often trying to grab thrown candy. This creates a serious safety hazard for both the spectators and parade participants. Drivers of floats and vehicles are having a harder time stopping safely, maneuvering through tight turns, and maintaining a consistent pace—factors that can quickly escalate into dangerous situations in a crowded environment. 

Another major concern is the growing amount of trash left behind after each parade. Wrappers, broken candy, and discarded bags litter the sidewalks and streets—causing a major ant problem that residents in and near the park have reported to the Scurry County Parks Department along with sanitation issues. Cleanup crews are spending a significant number of man-hours collecting debris after each parade, costing the city/ county time, money, and resources that could be used elsewhere. 

As a result, our local committee along with local public safety entities are advocating for a safer, more responsible approach: requiring walkers to hand out candy along the routes instead of throwing it from moving floats or vehicles. 

Let us be clear: we are not asking floats to stop handing out candy entirely. We’re simply asking that candy be handed out by walkers rather than thrown from moving vehicles. 

This method: 

• Reduces the temptation for children to run into the street,
• Keeps drivers focused on safety and maneuvering,
• Cuts down on thrown and broken items, and
• Reduces littering and cleanup burdens.

We also understand walking a parade route can be tiring. That’s why walkers are welcome to take breaks—sit on their float whenever needed and rejoin when they’re ready. This is meant to be a solution that works for everyone, not a burden. 

 The Reasoning Behind the Change: 

1. Public Safety Comes FirstPreventing injuries to spectators—especially children—is the top priority. Handing out candy directly ensures that spectators remain on sidewalks or behind barriers, reducing the risk of them stepping into the path of vehicles.

2. Liability and Legal ConsiderationsPublic entities involved in hosting or sponsoring parades are increasingly concerned about liability. The Chamber of Commerce, City of Snyder, Scurry County could be held responsible if someone is injured during a parade, particularly if safety recommendations are ignored. Many municipal risk management guidelines now specifically prohibit the throwing of items, including candy, from any moving vehicles.
3. Float Safety and Traffic FlowWith more spectators crowding near floats to retrieve candy, drivers are finding it difficult to stop safely or maneuver the route effectively. This congestion poses a real danger and creates unnecessary risk for everyone involved.
4. Clear Policy GuidanceMany city ordinances and insurance providers now recommend or require:
   • No candy or items thrown from floats.
   • All parade participants operating vehicles to be licensed adults.
   • Spectators to remain outside the parade route at all times.
   • Designated walkers to distribute candy safely by hand.
5. A Compromise That Keeps Tradition AliveEliminating candy altogether might preserve safety, but it sacrifices a beloved tradition. Continuing to allow candy distribution—through walkers rather than throwers—balances the excitement of candy with a much safer delivery method. It’s a reasonable middle ground that protects both community joy and public well-being.

By taking a thoughtful, safety-first approach, Snyder can continue to enjoy the energy, spirit, and excitement of our parades—without sacrificing public safety, driver control, or community cleanliness. This small shift in how candy is distributed can make a big impact on keeping our traditions alive and our community safe.

Last night, the City of Snyder / Scurry County Office of Emergency Management received a request to stage Texas Task Force 2 (TX-TF2) at the WTC Coliseum in response to the devastating tornadoes affecting the Lubbock area.

For those unfamiliar, TX-TF2 is one of Texas’ elite Urban Search and Rescue teams. These highly trained professionals are equipped to respond to natural disasters like tornadoes, floods, and structural collapses. Their mission includes locating and rescuing victims, providing emergency medical care, and supporting incident management during large-scale emergencies.

We want to give a HUGE shout-out to Western Texas College for generously allowing us to use their facilities to support this effort. Their partnership and quick support helped ensure the team had a safe and functional base of operations while awaiting deployment orders.

Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by the storms, and we’re proud to play a small role in supporting the responders working to help our fellow Texans.

SNYDER, TX – The City of Snyder extends its sincere gratitude to all agencies and personnel who responded swiftly and professionally to yesterday’s chemical incident at the Snyder Water Treatment Plant.

Thanks to the rapid coordination between multiple departments and jurisdictions, the situation was contained without injury or compromise to public safety. We recognize the outstanding efforts of:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Good afternoon, and thank you all for being here today. My name is Jay Callaway, and I serve as the Emergency Management Coordinator/IC for Snyder and Scurry County. I’ll be providing an update and answering questions about the chemical incident at Snyder’s Water Treatment Plant. 

At approximately 12:27PM Emergency Services were requested at the Snyder Water Treatment Plant for a chemical incident. Emergency crews arrived on scene at approximately 12:31PM to find a delivery truck offloading chemicals into the incorrect tank. Due to the nature of the chemical, initial concerns were threat of explosion and release of toxic fumes. Crews immediately began evacuations north of the filter plant in a half mile perimeter. We worked closely with the City of Snyder and the Public Works Department, Snyder Police Department who helped traffic control, and Scurry County EMS who was on scene to ensure safety of residents. Abilene Fire & Hazmat was also notified for assistance on scene and have confirmed the chemical as chlorine dioxide. At 4:25PM all levels are safe outside the fencing at the water plant. 

For residents in the affected area, please note the following:

• The evacuation notice has been lifted for all voluntary evacuees. It is safe to return home.

We’re aware of some misinformation circulating on social media. To be clear:

• No injuries have been reported 
• The water is safe to drink and was never compromised
• There was never an explosion causing fire, rather a small pressure release

Good evening, and thank you all for joining us for this 9:00PM update. My name is Jay Callaway, and I serve as the Emergency Management Coordinator for Snyder and Scurry County and Incident Commander for this event.

I’m here to provide the latest information regarding today’s chemical incident at the Snyder Water Treatment Plant.

To recap: At approximately 12:27PM, emergency services were requested at the plant after a chemical delivery was mistakenly offloaded into the wrong tank. Crews arrived on scene within minutes and due to the chemical involved, we implemented immediate safety precautions including a voluntary evacuation in a half-mile radius north of the facility. 

Since our last update, I want to confirm the following:

• As of now, the situation remains fully stabilized.
• Hazmat technicians from Abilene have completed their on-site monitoring and confirmed there is no longer any chemical risk outside the fenced area.
• All containment efforts have been successful, and the site has transitioned into cleanup and post-incident assessment.
• The voluntary evacuation was lifted at 4:25PM this afternoon, and residents may safely return home.
• We will continue to monitor air quality. 

To address continuing questions:

• There were no reported injuries throughout this incident.
• There was no explosion or fire — only a brief release of pressure that some residents may have heard.
• Snyder’s water supply remains safe. It was never compromised, and drinking water has been continuously monitored and tested throughout the day.

I want to take a moment to sincerely thank our partner agencies — the City of Snyder, Public Works, Snyder Police Department, Scurry County and Scurry County EMS, Texas Division of Emergency Management, Texas DPS, and the Abilene Fire Department Hazmat team — for their swift and professional response. This was a textbook example of coordinated emergency management and resident safety was our top priority.

Lane closure to affect parking around the Snyder Courthouse square

ABILENE – On Friday, March 28, the Texas Department of Transportation’s contractor, R. K. Hall, will begin setting barricades and placing traffic signs for a construction project beginning in April on US 180 within the city limits of the City of Snyder.

This project includes a hot mix overlay of US 180 from the intersection of US 180 and SH 350 at the Snyder Courthouse east to US 84. The traveling public should expect a lane closure on US 180 that will affect parking around the square. Travelers should seek alternate parking for the duration of the project. Construction will begin the first week of April and is scheduled to take approximately four weeks, weather permitting.

SNYDER, TX – The City of Snyder and Keep Snyder Beautiful are encouraging residents to reduce waste and beautify the community this spring. This initiative leads up to two major events: Trash to Treasure Flea Market & Garage Sale on April 12 and Take Back Sparkle City on April 26.

Residents can declutter, donate, and take action in multiple ways:

SNYDER, TX – The City of Snyder will assist residents with another round of storm debris pickup following recent high winds. Crews will collect storm-related debris only from Monday, March 24, through Wednesday, March 26.

To ensure efficient collection, residents must call or email to request a pickup. Debris should be placed in the city right-of-way (ROW) by the curb and sorted into separate piles:

• Vegetation – Tree limbs, branches, and yard waste
• Shingles – Roofing materials
• Metals – Carport debris, roof materials, and scrap metal
• Other Storm Debris – Miscellaneous storm-related waste

Only storm debris will be collected. Household trash, construction materials, or other non-storm-related waste will not be accepted.

Debris must not block stop signs, fire hydrants, or obstruct driver visibility. Residents must request pickup by calling the Office of Emergency Management (325) 573-6215, City Hall at (325) 573-4957, or emailing snyderoem@gmail.com with their name, address, and a brief description.

This is the second round of storm debris cleanup following recent severe weather, ensuring residents have another opportunity to clear storm damage from their properties. Residents should contact their insurance provider before removing any materials, as documentation may be required for claims.

The City of Snyder is sharing an important update from Atmos Energy regarding assistance programs for customers facing high natural gas bills. Due to recent winter weather, many households may see increased usage and higher bills. Atmos Energy offers resources such as Budget Billing for predictable payments, Installment Plans to spread costs over time, and connections to local energy assistance agencies. Please note that these centers are not intended for overnight stays. They will remain open during the day and may close once conditions improve. 

We will be closely monitoring the weather, and we will keep the public updated on any changes or additional resources that may become available.

Recycle This Holiday Season

Snyder, TX – The holiday season is here, bringing joy, festivities—and plenty of waste. From wrapping paper and bows to cardboard boxes and Christmas trees, the City of Snyder reminds residents to recycle responsibly and reduce holiday waste wherever possible.

“Recycling during the holidays is a simple way to protect our environment and make a positive impact on our community,” said Eli Torres, City Manager. “By understanding what can and cannot be recycled, residents can ensure that items are properly sorted and processed.”

Here are some tips to keep Snyder beautiful and sustainable this season:

Recycling Guidelines

• Wrapping Paper: Simple wrapping paper without glitter or metallic elements can be recycled. However, foil or glittery paper cannot be recycled—reuse these materials instead! Tip: Instead of buying new wrapping paper, consider eco-friendly alternatives like wrapping your gifts in newspaper or opting for reusable gift bags.
• Bows and Ribbons: Bows and ribbons are not recyclable, but they can be saved for next year’s gifts. Reduce waste by reusing them or choosing alternatives like twine.
• Cardboard Boxes: Flatten all cardboard boxes before placing them in your recycling bin. Large boxes from holiday deliveries are perfect for recycling.
• Plastic Wrap and Bubble Wrap: These items cannot go in the recycling bin, but they can often be recycled at special drop-off locations, such as grocery stores with designated bins for plastic bags.
• Christmas Trees: Natural trees can be recycled into mulch if they are free of decorations, tinsel, and lights. Snyder residents can drop off their trees at a drop-off location on 30th St & Ave Q from December 30, 2024 to January 10, 2024.

Residents can recycle their holiday materials at the City of Snyder Recycling Center, located at 2661 Thompson Road. Operating hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Snyder, TX – The City of Snyder is thrilled to announce the unveiling of a unique public art installation created by a talented local artist, 12-year-old Ysabel Hombrebueno, a 6th-grade student in Snyder. As part of a collaborative effort to celebrate community pride and the rich history of Snyder, she has transformed a dumpster into a vibrant mural that will be displayed at the Heritage Village.

This stunning work of art features four murals that beautifully reflect Snyder’s heritage and the iconic elements of the Heritage Village:

• Front Panel: A train, symbolizing Snyder's connection to its railway history.
• Back Panel: A windmill and cow, representing the agricultural roots of the community.
• Side Panel: The Redwood Chapel, a beloved landmark.
• Other Side Panel: The Pete Snyder Store, a tribute to the city’s namesake.

Ysabel Hombrebueno shared her thoughts on the inspiration and purpose behind her artwork, saying, "I just really want to make people happy." Her mural captures the essence of Snyder's past while bringing joy and color to a functional object.

The young artist found inspiration in the Heritage Village itself. "When I first saw it and heard about the history, it was pretty cool," she said. Through her art, she hopes viewers will reflect on the work she put into the project and the history it represents.

The creative process was as meticulous as it was inspiring. Hombrebueno began by sketching her ideas on paper, receiving help from her mother to bring the designs to life. She faced challenges, particularly with the line work, but persevered with her mother’s support. "Don’t stop, keep going even though it’s getting hard," she advises other young artists aspiring to make a difference.

The City of Snyder is proud to showcase this incredible piece of public art, which highlights not only the history of our community but also the immense talent and creativity of our youth. The mural will be officially unveiled at Heritage Village, located at 900 E Coliseum Dr, on December 5, 2024 from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM at their Annual Christmas at the Village event.

Snyder, TX — The City of Snyder is excited to announce the launch of its Facade Grant Program, a strategic initiative aimed at revitalizing the town and supporting local businesses. The program provides a 75% matching grant to reimburse up to $25,000 for approved exterior property improvements, encouraging property owners and tenants to invest in the visual appeal of their buildings.

Examples of eligible projects include exterior painting, signage updates, window and door replacements, lighting installations, landscaping enhancements, parking lot improvements, and brick or masonry restoration. Additional benefits include waived permit fees for participating businesses. 

Why It MattersThe Facade Grant Program is designed to preserve Snyder’s historic character, stimulate economic growth, and support local businesses. By improving storefronts, the program aims to attract new businesses, boost property values, and increase foot traffic in commercial areas.

Snyder, Texas – In celebration of Texas Recycles Day, Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) is thrilled to award a 2024 Texas Recycles Day Grant to Keep Snyder Beautiful! Thanks to generous funding from Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages, an Arca-Continental company, this grant is part of a $60,000 fund shared among eight communities across Texas. It will help boost and enhance Snyder’s recycling programs, making a powerful impact on local sustainability efforts.

To assist with implementing their project, Snyder has received $10,000 to begin and support their proposed community project. Keep Snyder Beautiful will complete their project by June 2025.  

Keep Snyder Beautiful plans to enhance recycling efforts in the community by providing recycling roll-off containers for a hands-on program with the Snyder STEAM Team, introducing mobile recycling stations with community roll-offs, and launching a public campaign to encourage participation.

“These initiatives will not only make recycling more accessible but will also empower our youth and residents to take an active role in sustainability,” said Eli Torres, City Manager and Keep Snyder Beautiful committee member. “With the support of the Texas Recycles Day Grant, we’re excited to strengthen our community’s commitment to keeping Snyder beautiful and sustainable.”

In addition to Snyder, the affiliate communities of Coppell, Dickinson, La Marque, Mission, Plainview, Real County, and Victoria also received a 2024 Texas Recycles Day Grant.

The City of Snyder has completed a comprehensive Lead Service Line Inventory for our community. We are pleased to inform you that no lead materials were found in any of our water service lines. However, if your water service line is composed of galvanized or unknown materials, you will soon receive a letter from the City with information outlining the next steps. This letter will include recommended actions for your consideration and additional information about options for replacing any service lines requiring attention.

To keep our infrastructure in the best possible condition, the City has developed a proactive plan to replace specific water service lines as part of ongoing system improvements. We are seeking additional funding, including grants, to help support this work. As funding becomes available, we will begin implementing upgrades from the meter to the water main to improve our community’s water infrastructure.

This inventory and assessment were conducted in compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements. The City of Snyder is committed to meeting these standards to ensure the safety and quality of our community’s water.

SNYDER, TX – Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) has recognized Keep Snyder Beautiful as a recipient of a 2024 Our Texas, Our Future Grant. Through funding from H-E-B, Keep Texas Beautiful is providing 12 affiliate communities grants to support educational and programmatic opportunities relating to sustainability, recycling, litter prevention, beautification, water conservation, and native species and habitat conservation.

To assist with implementing their project, Snyder has received $5,000 to begin and support their proposed community project. Keep Snyder Beautiful will complete their project by July 2025.  

Keep Snyder Beautiful plans to to support the expansion of community recycling access in Snyder through the installation of student-decorated recycling containers at local businesses.

“We are thrilled to be awarded this grant from Keep Texas Beautiful and H-E-B. This funding will help us make a meaningful impact on our community by expanding recycling access and fostering environmental responsibility.” said Eli Torres, City Manager.

In addition to Snyder, the affiliate communities of Angelina County, Cedar Hill, Duncanville, Fulshear, Grand Prairie, League City, Pflugerville, San Antonio, South Padre Island, Temple, and Waco also received a 2024 Our Texas, Our Future Grant.

SNYDER, TX – The City of Snyder, in partnership with Snyder ISD and the Keep Snyder Beautiful committee, is excited to announce the annual Bottle Recycling Challenge, kicking off on November 11, 2024. In celebration of Snyder Recycles Day and America Recycles Day (November 15th), students in grades PK-12 are invited to collect #1 and #2 plastic bottles and bring them to school for a chance to win exciting prizes!

Bottle collection will be from November 11th to November 13th, between 7:20 AM and 8:00 AM at each Snyder ISD campus. For every bag of bottles brought to school, students will receive raffle tickets to win special prizes. Two small bags earn one ticket, one medium bag earns two tickets, and one large bag earns five tickets.

In addition, the grade level with the most bottles collected will win a special prize! Snyder ISD district employees can participate by bringing bags of bottles to compete for staff prizes.

The Bottle Challenge also supports the Caps For Life initiative by encouraging students to remove bottle caps and bag them separately. The caps will be collected by Snyder Intermediate's STEAM Team and are recycled to fund cancer treatments for children in Mexico.

Community members are also encouraged to recycle at designated recycling points across the city to support the Keep Snyder Beautiful initiative. Together, we can work toward a cleaner, greener community!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 18, 2024Snyder's Drinking Water Contains Safe, Natural Fluoride Levels

SNYDER – The City of Snyder's drinking water contains naturally occurring fluoride at levels below federal recommendations, meeting all safety standards for public consumption.

Current fluoride levels in our drinking water measure at 0.556 milligrams per liter, below the recommended level of 0.7 milligrams per liter. The City of Snyder does not add any supplemental fluoride to its water supply.

This public notice follows a federal court ruling requiring the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to review fluoride regulations. In the ruling, the judge stated, "There is substantial and scientifically credible evidence establishing that fluoride poses a risk to human health; it is associated with a reduction in the IQ of children and is hazardous at dosages that are far too close to fluoride levels in the drinking water of the United States."

Our water quality experts continuously monitor all aspects of Snyder’s water supply to ensure safe drinking water for our community.
