Burning Regulations
Burning regulations vary depending on whether you are inside or outside Snyder city limits. These rules are in place to protect public safety, property, and air quality.
Before burning, you should always check current fire weather conditions and burn restrictions.
Burning Inside Snyder City Limits
Outdoor burning is not allowed inside Snyder city limits.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Trash or household waste
- Brush, leaves, or yard debris
- Open burning in barrels, pits, or piles
Limited exceptions may exist for:
- Cooking fires (grills or smokers)
- Approved recreational fires that meet city code requirements

Burning Outside Snyder City Limits
If you live outside Snyder city limits, burning may be allowed under certain conditions. You are responsible for following all county and state regulations and ensuring conditions are safe before you burn.
What You May and May Not Burn (Outside City Limits)
Allowed materials (when conditions permit):
- Brush and tree trimmings
- Natural vegetation grown on the property
- Household trash or garbage
Prohibited materials:
- Plastics, tires, or treated or painted wood
- Construction or demolition materials
- Chemicals or hazardous materials
Burning prohibited materials may result in fines or enforcement action.
Before You Burn
Before burning outside city limits, you must:
- Check for a burn ban: Burning is not allowed during a Scurry County burn ban.
- Check fire weather conditions: Do not burn during high winds, low humidity, extremely dry conditions, or a National Weather Service Red Flag Warning.
- Notify the Snyder Fire Department: You must call the Snyder Fire Department before burning so crews are aware of planned activity.
- Have safety equipment on hand: Keep a water source or fire suppression equipment available.
- Attend the fire at all times: Never leave a fire unattended and extinguish it completely before leaving the area.
The Snyder Fire Department may require you to extinguish a fire if conditions become unsafe.
